The Swan As A Metaphor
Across many cultures, swans symbolize certain qualities including grace, perseverance, healing and tranquility. They embody a stoic elegance and inner strength, while are also known to be fiercely protective over those they care for. In much the same way, Serene Breast and Wellness Center reflects the spirit of the swan: steadfast in our commitment to compassionate care, graceful in the approach to healing, and unwavering in our dedication to guiding each patient through their journey.
To provide women affected by benign and malignant breast conditions with integrative care and superior outcomes.

Heather King, M.D., FACS
Heather King, MD is a fellowship trained Breast Surgical Oncologist with an exceptional history of advanced care.
Dr. King completed a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology at the University of Miami and remained as faculty afterwards. She then completed additional training in Oncoplastic surgical techniques in Paris, France.
Dr. King then began working with Texas Oncology as the first fellowship-trained breast surgeon in Central Texas where she has made significant contributions to modernizing breast surgical care in the region. During her tenure with that group, she was instrumental in developing that practice into a successful, modern breast surgery group. She designed protocols for oncoplastic surgery that continue to be used today.
Her dedication to restoring the confidence and well-being of her patients is evident in her work. Through collaboration with plastic and reconstruction surgeons, Dr. King's innovative approach led to Austin’s first nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction, setting new standards for patient care. In addition, one of her most notable achievements was performing Austin’s first thoracic nerve dissection for Resensation mastectomy. This groundbreaking technique restores sensation after mastectomy and reconstruction, helping patients feel whole again.
Experience and Expertise:
- Fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology – University of Miami
- Oncoplastic Surgical Mini Fellowship – L’Institut du Sein, Paris, France with Dr. Krishna Clough
- First Nipple-Sparing Mastectomy with Immediate DIEP Flap Reconstruction in Austin
- Resensation Mastectomy – First Thoracic Nerve Dissection in Austin
With the launch of Serene Breast and Wellness Center, Dr. King is proud to provide a new model of care for individuals facing breast-related concerns, from high-risk screenings to benign conditions and cancer treatment. The center offers not only advanced surgical procedures, but also in-house ultrasound, biopsies and supportive therapies such as dry needling and lymphatic drainage treatments. These complementary treatments help reduce side effects from surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy—leading to improved outcomes and a greater sense of peace.
Dr. King’s philosophy is to provide not only advanced medical care but also compassionate, personalized attention to each patient. She works closely with her patients to develop treatment plans tailored to their unique needs, ensuring that they feel heard, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.
